Denali National Park | Sunday, Jun 02, 2024 | Sunday, Jun 02, 2024 |
Denali National Park and Preserve defines the Alaskan Experience. Towering above it all is Mt. McKinley, the highest point in North America. At 20,320 feet, its summit beckons more than 1,000 climbers each year who brave the elements for the chance to scale its majestic face. Denali encompasses 6 million acres of forests, tundra, glaciers and mountains. Moose, caribou, sheep and bears free to roam a wide area of land untouched by man. There are ample opportunities for animal watching, whether it is a grizzly foraging for berries or a golden eagle soaring through the crisp, clean Alaskan air. Denali is one of the few places where visitors come in contact with the Alaskan tundra - a "vast, rolling, treeless plain." The tundra starts at 2,500 feet and extends up along the massive Alaska Range. Muldrow Glacier, which descends 16,000 feet from the upper slopes of Mt. McKinley, comes within one mile of the road.

Fairbanks | Wednesday, Jun 05, 2024 | Wednesday, Jun 05, 2024 |
Fairbanks is the focal point for tiny villages scattered throughout the surrounding wilderness and a staging point for North Slope villages such as Barrow and the oil fields of Prudhoe Bay. Fairbanks is called "The Golden Heart of Alaska," a reference to the character of her people as much as to the location of Fairbanks in Alaska's interior, or to the discovery of gold in 1902. The Interior has temperatures ranging from 65 degrees below zero in the winter to 90 degrees above in the summer. Gardening is big in the Interior. Alaska Gardens abound. Fairbanks also has very long summer days. The shortest winter day of the year has less than three hours of sunlight, the longest never really ends, though officially it has over 21 hours.
Dawson City | Thursday, Jun 06, 2024 | Thursday, Jun 06, 2024 |
Dawson City is a buzz of activity during the summer months. Tourists from all over the world make it a destination or pass through on the way over the Top of The World Highway to Alaska. The town, which was established on the banks of the Yukon River in 1897, exploded to forty thousand inhabitants the next year when news of the gold strike on Bonanza Creek reached the outside world, making it the largest city west of Winnipeg and north of Seattle. It was the capital of the Yukon Territory until 1953 and today is a national historic site. Many of the buildings have been restored to their original grandeur, and new structures are built to reflect the historical theme, adding to the charm and appeal of this community one hundred and fifty miles south of the Arctic Circle.

Whitehorse | Saturday, Jun 08, 2024 | Saturday, Jun 08, 2024 |
One hundred years ago 30,000 reckless adventurers fought their way up the Yukon River, by boat, on their voyage to Gold fields. Many struggled through the choppy Whitehorse Rapids. Fearless men and women traversed great distances to arrive at their goal, the Klondike. Whitehorse, Capital of the Yukon, is home to some of the most spectacular scenery in Canada. Named by some "the Wilderness City", Whitehorse nestles on the banks of the famed Yukon River surrounded by mountains and clear mountain lakes. Whitehorse takes its name from the frothing waves of the river rapids, thought by stampeders to resemble manes of White Horses. While the turn of the Century aura still hovers and vestiges of proud history remain, Whitehorse is now a thoroughly contemporary city of 24,000 people. Whitehorse boasts a healthy arts and cultural community; festivals, events, fishing, shopping, attractions, restaurants and quality visitor services are here to enjoy. Long warm summer days and evenings provide the perfect background to explore this city.
Skagway | Sunday, Jun 09, 2024 | Sunday, Jun 09, 2024 |
This "Gateway to the Klondike" watched as fortune-seekers headed to Chilkoot and White Pass Trails during Alaska's Gold Rush. Today, feel like a prospector in Skagway, as you walk along its rustic boardwalks and frontier-style storefronts. This cozy town offers a pleasant respite from the hustle and bustle of most cities. With classic cars and one of the oldest narrow-gauge railroads in the world, the city retains the flavor of days gone by and remains an important link to Alaska's history. A stroll down Broadway is a must. Highlights include Arctic Brotherhood Hall. Other buildings like the Trail of '98 Museum, Corrington's Museum of Alaskan History and the Alaskan Wildlife Adventure and Museum present different facets of prospecting times. Before hitting famous Chilkoot Trail, there are other well-marked trails to try. Hiking to Lower Dewey Lake is an easy, 20-minutes, and there are more adventurous trails to remote Sturgill's Landing, Upper Dewey Lake and Devil's Punchbowl. The White Pass Scenic Railway and Eagle Preserve Wildlife Quest provide additional options.

Glacier Bay | Wednesday, Jun 12, 2024 | Wednesday, Jun 12, 2024 |
Spread across an impressive 3.2 million acres in southeast Alaska, Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve offers an inspirational glimpse of what Mother Nature does best. The head of Glacier Bay is Tarr Inlet, where scientists have found exposed rock believed to be more than 200 million years old. The Tarr Inlet is home to Grand Pacific Glacier, an active body of ice slowly making way toward Margerie Glacier, which it last touched in 1912. Johns Hopkins Inlet is home to no less than nine glaciers. Framed by rocky slopes stretching skyward more than 6,000 feet, these wondrous bodies are eclipsed only by mighty Mount Fairweather, which at more than 15,300 feet is the highest point in southeast Alaska. In northeast Glacier Bay, the snow-covered Takhinsha Mountains feed active Muir Glacier. The brilliant blue glow of a calving glacier and the thunderous roar of ice crashing into the water below are sights and sounds to remember for the rest of your life. With such diverse landscape, the park provides a variety of habitats for animals.
Ketchikan | Thursday, Jun 13, 2024 | Thursday, Jun 13, 2024 |
Ketchikan is known as "Alaska's First City" because it's the first major community travelers come to as they travel north. The city is built on steep hillsides and is billed as salmon capital of the world. A quaint village, the town is three miles long and three blocks wide. With fishing boats sailing in and float planes ascending from the water, this seaside town is bustling with activity. With the world's largest collection of totem poles, Totem Bight State Historical Park offers insight into various native cultures of the Pacific Northwest. These wood-carved creations tell colorful, intricate tales – often showing a family history or depicting a local legend. Ketchikan has many options for adventure of relaxation, including mountain bike tours, sea kayaking, seaplane riding, or strolling down the boardwalk of Creek Street, Ketchikan's most famous section with a historic cable car and quaint boutiques. Blessed with an abundance of hiking trails, Ketchikan offers many breathtaking vistas, including the panoramic, 360-degree view from the top of Deer Mountain.
Inside Passage | Friday, Jun 14, 2024 | Friday, Jun 14, 2024 |
Imagine being confronted with a myriad of mysterious channels. Following each fjord to the interior, encounter massive mountain ranges, towering cliffs, tumbling waterfalls, virginal forests of two-hundred foot tall spruce, while whales, bears, seals, salmon, eagles and other wildlife. Always they were stopped by an inevitable face of ice - glaciers pushing inexorably downward to meet the sea. What must have been a mapmaker's nightmare is today cherished as the continent's last great untouched wilderness, harbouring the world's largest temperate rain forest. An Eden of the North to captivate the every modern-day explorer. The string of islands of the Inside Passage create a protective barrier to the open sea running from the Washington State/Canadian border and the bottom of Vancouver Island all the way up to the top of Chichagof Island, where the Gulf of Alaska begins its curve westward, offering a supremely serene cruising environment in some of the most dramatic surroundings on earth.
Vancouver | Saturday, Jun 15, 2024 | Saturday, Jun 15, 2024 |
Vancouver is a thriving metropolis surrounded by natural beauty. With parks, beaches, gardens, museums, art galleries and the second-largest Chinatown in North America, Vancouver lives up to its promise of offering something for everyone. With modern buildings set against green, rolling hillsides, this city is breathtaking; no location offers a more spectacular view than Stanley Park - with a zoo, aquarium, totem poles and honking geese. A short walk from the park leads to Robson Street, which offers the town's best window-shopping. Stores with European flavor share the avenue with delicatessens and tea rooms ready to serve. As architectural heart of the city, Robson Square features a central plaza with a food fair and an old provincial courthouse, which now houses Vancouver Art Gallery. Be sure to stop at 8 Pender St. - "the narrowest building in the world." Other points of interest include the Museum of Anthropology; Japanese-style Nitobe Memorial Garden; and VanDusen Botanical Garden. Capilano Canyon is site of the world's longest and highest suspension footbridge. |

Women cannot have begun their 24th week of pregnancy at any time before or during the cruise.
If you are pregnant, a physician’s letter must be provided stating the expected due date, medical fitness to travel, and the pregnancy is not high risk. Please also include your name, booking number, ship and sailing date.

For the comfort of all guests, smoking is prohibited in all staterooms, showrooms, and most other indoor areas. While smoking is not permitted in staterooms, guests are allowed to smoke on stateroom verandahs. Smoking is also permitted on certain other designated, outside decks. The designated smoking areas for all ships are as follows unless otherwise noted.
Cigar and pipe smoking is NOT allowed anywhere inside the ship; it is only permitted on the outside decks where smoking is allowed and on stateroom verandahs.
Electronic cigarettes are permitted in staterooms but not in other public areas of the ship other than on outside decks designated as smoking areas.
Any guest caught smoking inside their stateroom will be considered in violation of Holland America's smoking policy, and will be charged a US$250 cleaning fee per day of violation.
Special dietary requests, such as vegetarian, diabetic or gluten-free meals, are easily accommodated with advance notice. Kosher meals and a Health Conscious Dining option are also available. To arrange special meals, please contact the Ship Services Department at 1-800-541-1576 at least 90 days prior to departure.
Food Allergies
For guests with food intolerances or allergies that are NOT life-threatening, please contact the Ship Services Department at (800)541-1576.
For guests with life-threatening food allergies, guests are asked to provide detailed information to the Access & Compliance Department by completing a Special Requirements Information (SRI) Form. Guests should indicate on this form which foods may potentially cause a severe reaction. Guests with a variety of severe food allergies sail with Holland America Line regularly. The galley staff on board is accustomed to and experienced in dealing with these types of needs. The galley itself has many different areas of food preparation, which can help reduce the possibility of cross-contamination. It is important to note, however, that meals are prepared in mass quantities on board, thus there is always the possibility of some cross-contamination. As such, Holland America Line cannot guarantee that a guest will not come in contact with those items. Although the Access & Compliance Department will provide the ship with an advance notice of all food allergies detailed on an SRI submitted to them, it is recommended that guests also contact the Dining Room Manager upon boarding to review the details of these special dietary needs.
Holland America Line is committed to providing safe, easy, and accessible accommodations for all persons with disabilities, to the extent that is feasible. However, some needs require adequate time to prepare for a guest's arrival. It is recommended that guests make every effort to contact the Access & Compliance Department and submit a Special Requirements Information (SRI) Form well in advance of the departure of their cruise and/or cruisetour. It is recommended that an SRI form be submitted immediately upon booking, or a minimum of 45 days prior to departure.
Guests who are unable to care for their basic needs (e.g. dressing, eating, and attending safety drills) MUST have a capable traveling companion. The medical staff on board is not available for daily care unless an individual is hospitalized in the ship's Medical Center. In limited situations (either on board or ashore), Holland America may find it necessary to ask the individual to make alternative travel arrangements, such as if an individual with a disability is unable to satisfy certain specified safety and other criteria, even when provided with appropriate auxiliary aids and services.
Wheelchair-Accessible Staterooms
Holland America Line vessels have specially designed staterooms for guests who use wheelchairs. If you have not booked a wheelchair accessible staterooms, but instead will be using a standard stateroom, it is important to know about some limitations that adversely impact maneuverability, especially ingress and egress into bathrooms. For example, bathroom dimensions, doorsills, and the height of bathtubs in standard staterooms are often difficult to negotiate for guests who have limited mobility. Additionally, standard stateroom doors and hallways may be too narrow for a wheelchair or scooter* to maneuver into and out of the stateroom.
*Note: For safety reasons, these mobility devices must be stored and charged in the guests' staterooms.
Wheelchair Accessible Staterooms offer features such as wider entry doors, roll-in showers with grab bars and benches/seats, and hand-held shower nozzles, as well as lowered closet and towel rods.
Accessible stateroom locations are noted on the Deck Plans for each ship.
Ship Transfer Options
For individuals with limited mobility, the use of a wheelchair will be the primary mobility assistance aid for getting on and off the ship. Certain ship transfer operations (i.e. during tendering and at the gangways) may not be fully accessible to wheelchairs or scooters. When a ship is unable to dock, guests are taken ashore on smaller boats called tenders. Some guests with limited mobility may find it difficult to embark or disembark the ship at certain times while tendering or while docked due to steep gangways and steps, particularly during low or high tide. Also, please note that scooters and wheelchairs which are more than 100 lbs. (without the battery) are not allowed to be transferred from the ship to tender and/or from tender to shore.
Most Holland America Line vessels have been retrofitted with a tender-lift system that enables guests to roll directly on and off tenders while remaining in their wheelchairs. However, please be advised that adverse weather conditions such as wind, swells, or extreme tide levels may prohibit the use of the ship's tender lift equipment. Additionally, some port facilities may not be able to accommodate the lift equipment. If you require the use of this equipment, please speak with the Guest Relations Manager upon embarkation for further details or to coordinate specific arrangements.
Situations may occur in which guests with limited mobility may not be able to go ashore at the time they desire or are unable to go ashore at all in certain ports. For the safety of all concerned, the Captain shall make the final determination regarding whether or not it is advisable to provide assistance to guests with mobility impairments, or to carry their mobility assistance device (wheelchair, scooter, walker, etc.), taking into account all appropriate matters including, but not limited to, weather conditions, ship's location, weight of the guest or their mobility device, etc.
Personal Mobility Equipment
For the safety of all guests and crew, and to enhance accessibility, Holland America Line strongly recommends that all personal electric mobility equipment meet the following criteria:
Holland America Line recognizes that for some people, a larger scooter may be essential. If you believe you need a larger scooter, please contact the Access & Compliance Department to discuss your requirements.
For the safety of all guests and crew, scooters and other mobility equipment need to be securely stored and charged in the guest's stateroom, not in hallways or elevator lobbies. Scooters left in hallways and elevator lobbies could restrict people needing to travel through these areas in an emergency, particularly other guests using mobility aids, since they would have no way of getting by a scooter left in a hallway.
Holland America Line is no longer able to provide complimentary wheelchair assistance for any purpose other than embarkation, disembarkation, and emergency situations. Holland America Line wheelchairs are not available for shore excursions or for use on board. If you will require regular use of a wheelchair, it is recommended that you bring your own wheelchair with you. You may also make advance rental arrangements prior to your sailing and have a wheelchair delivered directly to the ship for use on board and in ports of call.

Refund issues must be dealt with solely between you and the service provider. We recommend contacting one of these companies to confirm your arrangements as soon as possible in order to ensure the availability of your specific requests.
Shoreside Wheelchair Assistance
Because facilities in ports around the world vary significantly, wheelchair accommodations may not be available for some land tours and/or shore excursions. Furthermore, many transportation vehicles around the world do not have wheelchair lifts. Thus, it may be necessary for Holland America Line to make alternate transportation arrangements such as a sedan vehicle. This requires that a guest who uses a wheelchair be able to transfer from his/her wheelchair to the front or back seat of a sedan. Due to the limited number of lift-equipped vehicles in foreign locations, guests may incur additional costs for transportation related to airport transfers, shore excursions, and tour/hotel packages. Please note, lift equipped transportation within the United States may be arranged without additional costs. For information on alternative transportation arrangements and associated costs please contact the Access & Compliance Department . Please advise Holland America Line as far in advance as possible of any special needs for transfers. This will help to ensure availability of the appropriate vehicle(s) and for Holland America Line to provide an estimate of additional associated costs.
Guests should be aware that certain third party shore excursion facilities may not be fully accessible to guests with disabilities. Although Holland America Line endeavors to make sure these companies comply with legal requirements, they cannot guarantee that all are able to provide facilities that are accessible to individuals with disabilities. For detailed information on accessibility of shore excursions, it is strongly recommend that guests contact the Shore Excursions Department prior to embarkation at 1-888-425-9376 (or locally at 206-626-7320) or visit the Shore Excursions Office on board.
Wheelchair assistance that is requested for airports or train stations must be done directly through the airline or rail station. Holland America Line is not able to arrange for wheelchair assistance at airports or train stations.
Options For Deaf or Hard of Hearing Guests
To help maximize the cruise experience for guests who are deaf or hard of hearing, Holland America Line has made the following items available:
Options For Guests Who Are Blind Or Have Low Vision
To help maximize the cruise experience for guests who are blind or have low vision, Holland America Line has made the following items available:
Service Animals
Holland America Line only permits service animals on board, defined as those animals that are individually trained to provide assistance to an individual with a disability. Guests are not permitted to bring pets, therapy/companion animals, and other animals that do not meet the definition of service animals. If you have any questions about whether the animal you wish to bring on board is, in fact, a service animal, you may contact the Access & Compliance Department.
Your itinerary may include ports of call that have very specific and strict requirements that need to be met prior to your service animal being allowed off of the ship. Please be sure you understand the requirements for a service animal to disembark in each port of call. The best places to obtain specific information on required documentation and immunizations for your service animal are the U.S. Department of Agriculture's website, local customs offices in the specific ports, and from your service animal's veterinarian. All documentation and immunization requirements are established by government authorities and not by Holland America Line. Should you need assistance in locating this information, please contact the Access & Compliance Department.
To board the ship, your service animal must have current vaccinations. Records confirming the vaccination status should be provided to the Access & Compliance Department prior to your departure. It is also recommended that you carry the immunization records with you in case they are required at any port of call. If you do not have the proper documentation and proof of vaccinations for your service animal required at a port of call, or if there are local quarantine requirements, your service animal will be denied the right to leave the ship. If your service animal is denied the right to leave the ship in a specific port of call, the staff and crew will work with you to determine what actions may be possible to allow you to visit the port without your service animal. Please note that in your absence, you will need to provide for the care and supervision of your service animal. Except in those circumstances where your service animal has been denied disembarkation, you may not leave your service animal unattended on the vessel or in your stateroom at any time.
Oxygen Deliveries On Board
Guests requiring continuous or intermittent oxygen for chronic conditions must make their own arrangements prior to travel. Holland America Line ships are not equipped to provide guests with these services other than on an emergency basis in the Ship's Medical Center. For security and safety reasons, Holland America has selected CareVacations/CruiseShipAssist and Special Needs at Sea as the only outside vendors permitted to deliver oxygen supplies to Holland America ships.

Holland America Line has a youth program and the ship is staffed with a professional Club HAL Director dedicated to making sure children have a great time. Some of the fun-filled activities include bingo for prizes, arts & crafts, special parties, and much more. Each participant also receives a Club HAL t-shirt. An activity schedule for each age group will be delivered to your stateroom each evening.
Activities are offered for kids (ages 3-7), 'tweens (8-12), and teens (13-17). The program has an open door policy, which means participants may come and go as they please. All activities are supervised. However, the Club HAL Director is not responsible for any child if he/she chooses to leave the activity.

Pros: Our dinner servers were very friendly and attentive!
Cons: Loved the Dancers for entertainment, but we would have passed on Ric Steel (not our favorite)
Review: We were glad they had the show that told about how the ship ran. I would have loved to have a more advanced art class, or a class to learn how to crochet or knit. We loved the interfaith worship services.
Great service in all areas
Pros: Great service in all areas

Review: Everything was fine
Great staff, great excusions
Pros: Great staff, great excusions
Cons: Odd cabin layout, below par tech
Review: Have done four cruises but this the first on the newer and larger Holland America cruise ships. But newer and larger does not mean necessarily mean better. The staff were excellent as were the excursions and tour operators. The excursions in La Paz, Loreto, Mazatlan, and Puerto Vallarta were worth it. A very odd feature of the cabin was the bathroom. The toilet was the kind used on jet planes and loud when flushing. The water pressure was much lower in both the sink and shower. Last, the bathroom wasn't at the same elevation as the rest of the cabin. The tech used on the cruise ship was mediocre or worse. Channel selection on the television was as prior ships so expectations were low but accessing other features was annoying given the remote control's poor design. The Navigator app was something everyone had to use but the interface was on par with smart phone apps a decade ago and difficult to read on smaller screens. A basic feature such as ship location on a map was only available on the television but not the Navigator app itself. For reasons unknown, communication with other passengers via the Navigator app between android OS users and iOS users was not possible. It became unpleasantly apparent WiFi was only for one devise and had to purchase the delux WiFi package to be able to have access on phone and laptop too. Given passengers need to purchase a WiFi package on a luxury cruise ship is on par with what luxury hotels do but something can live with. Providing passengers with a much needed updated Navigator app should be first priority for Holland America given we used the app so much more on this cruise. It should also be noted not all senior passengers are tech savvy but my son came along and helped me with tech issues.
Staff was very accommodating.
Pros: Staff was very accommodating.
Cons: Food was not as good as last year. The $50 charge for Internet was a waste of money. The 5 hours at Cabo is not enough time to enjoy that port. The TV rarely worked consistantly.
Review: Food was not as good as last year. The $50 charge for Internet was a waste of money. The 5 hours at Cabo is not enough time to enjoy that port. The TV rarely worked consistently. However, our waiter in the dining room, Alexis was phenomenal!! Eula, in the Canaletto was so accommodating whenever we ate there.
Social interaction with other cruisers was amazing. Crew was very attentive. Entertainment was exceptional from Humanity to the Exc Talks
Pros: Social interaction with other cruisers was amazing. Crew was very attentive. Entertainment was exceptional from Humanity to the Exc Talks
Cons: Out of San Diego port-unacceptable 3.5 hour wait in-line to board. Holland did not seem to care that this wait was repeated twice in one month
Review: Very relaxing and friendly cruise
Wonderful ship and staff
Pros: Wonderful ship and staff
Cons: Unacceptable port of call in La Paz
Review: 2 hours ship to La Paz. 1 1/2 hour wait for bus and 25 minute bus ride from ship to La Paz. Unacceptable port of call. Should return to Puerto Vallarta
Everything
Pros: Everything
Cons: Weather could have been better but can’t hold Holland America responsible.
Review: This was a celebration with a family of 12 -3 generations of adults. Perfect venue-time for togetherness and time for independence. Konigssdam offered the best of everything- rooms, food, service. The presentations and entertainment had something for everyone but the older generation found the “music” much too loud. All twelve felt that the trip exceeded our expectations. Great work.
The ship was beautiful and in tip-top condition! All staff were outstanding (except see comment below). The dining room food was fabulous as was the service.
Pros: The ship was beautiful and in tip-top condition! All staff were outstanding (except see comment below). The dining room food was fabulous as was the service.
Cons: The main stage shows were so-so. The 3 music stages were excellent but the sets were very short. Little to do after 11 pm. I was disappointed that there were no whale-watching excursions available. They were offered in Juneau but we joined the trip after they had already been to Juneau.
Review: There were problems with inconsistencies and customer service. Some people in our group received additional cruise credits for excursions and were able to use them. For me and my husband, the extra cruise credits were visible on our account but the service desk was unable to apply them. They insisted that the excursion desk could fix the problem. I got up early and went to the excursion desk the next day. They insisted that they couldn't fix it and that the service desk should have taken care of it. Neither the service desk or the excursion desk resolved the problem, and were a little curt about it with me.
Every single thing I ate was amazing !
Pros: Every single thing I ate was amazing !
Cons: The crows nest is too small.
Review: We had the best trip to Alaska. Every meal we ate was delicious and beautifully prepared. We are so happy that we got a balcony room - it was my favorite place to hang out. We will most definitely sail on Holland American again.
A lot of things to do
Pros: A lot of things to do
Cons: No Cons
Review: Absolutely loved this ship especially the two that took care of my cabin. One name Rio and I can’t remember the other ones name. Sorry they did an awesome job friendly personable just amazing.
Condition of ship, incredible stewards and wait staff, variety of entertainment, guest services, incredible food
Pros: Condition of ship, incredible stewards and wait staff, variety of entertainment, guest services, incredible food
Cons: Weak drinks, in-room toilet orientation,
Review: Would highly recommend our friends to look at the Koningsdsm in their future cruise planning. The only disappointment I had was that when I had in-ship credit it should have been entirely refundable to me instead of having to use it on the ship. When I received credit for services not provided by the tour or changed within the tour that money belonged to me and should have been refunded to me.
The Food and drinks are top notch on this ship! This Cruise is more for adults.
Pros: The Food and drinks are top notch on this ship! This Cruise is more for adults.
Cons: Activites close down to early every night. Also need two moive nights for both dinner times.
Review: Probably my favorite ship from Holland America The Food and drinks are top notch on this ship! This Cruise is more for adults. All the specialty restaurants are wonderful. My favorite is the Tamarind and the Canaletto! Oh the Sushi is wonderful!! But the regular dining room is also wonderful. I think this is the only ship that you will also be totally happy just eating Dinner or lunch in the Buffet. The food is top notch and just as good at the sit down dining room. Can’t say that about other ships buffets. Not as many younger kids running around the ship and in the pools and hot tubs, like on let’s say Royal Caribbean ships. Cons: Well I think the ship closes down a little early at night. I understand as this ship seems to cater to let’s say 65 and over. Still like them to stay open a bit latter at night. Also they have only one Movie showing per night at 8pm so if you have the late dinner you can’t watch it. Maybe another late night movie starting at 10pm to midnight, for those that have the late dinner. Also the sound system for the movie night for the pool is really bad, and you can’t hear the dialogue. This needs to be corrected. Or come up with a way to hand out headsets to everyone as an option. But other than that it is a great cruise, I recommend this ship to everyone!!
Service and food terrific.
Pros: Service and food terrific.
Cons: Cost cutting measures were obvious
Review: Lots of up-charges in all restaurants. Butter was rationed (1/2 pat per person)but of course waiter happily brought us more as requested. Stateroom ((Neptune Suite) lovely and spacious. Cabin amenities minimal. Bathroom grout needed a good scrubbing…lots of mold. Stateroom attendant was great. Appreciated the cozy throws and robes. The service was excellent everywhere on the ship.
Specialty dining, cabanas, ship size, staff (friendly), music walk
Pros: Specialty dining, cabanas, ship size, staff (friendly), music walk
Cons: Under-staffed (especially dining room and lido), main dining room food,
Review: This was a really fun cruise, but it is evident that the Koningsdam is not fully staffed but is sailing full. This really showed up in the main dining room and lido areas, with excessive waits. The food and service was definitely much better in the specialty dining. The crew is amazing and friendly, just not enough of them. The ship is beautiful and relatively new.
The entire staff focuses on making you feel welcome and are accommodating. The ship meets the standards of a fine hotel.
Pros: The entire staff focuses on making you feel welcome and are accommodating. The ship meets the standards of a fine hotel.
Cons: Recorded music for the main evening shows is good but not a replacement for live music.
Review: We took advantage of the Alaska and Yukon land adventure before joining the ship in Skagway. Holland America was wonderful in making the complex land arrangements and keeping us informed. We recommend this itinerary for the exposure to Alaska and Yukon as well as the pleasure of a relaxing and memorable cruse to Vancouver.
Everything
Pros: Everything

Review: We had a spectacular time on this cruise. The staff on ship were fantastic. The food was spectacular. We had a great weather which was a bonus, as it had been raining for a few weeks prior to the beginning of our Cruise. The Glacier National Park was simply amazing.

Review: Wonderful trip! Beautiful cruise ship…food and entertainment was outstanding. The staff went above and beyond to make everything perfect. Our trip was amazing from start to finish.
Excellent staff, crew, food and ship
Pros: Excellent staff, crew, food and ship
Cons: Veranda cabin smaller than on previous HAL ships
Review: Stateroom service by Indri & Tri was excellent. Food beverage service at table 80 [second deck] was also excellent. Jamie was the best cruise director we have ever had. We thoroughly enjoyed the cruise, and we are looking forward to our next HAL cruise.
Food, service, entertainment, ship decor, sanitation
Pros: Food, service, entertainment, ship decor, sanitation
Cons: No Cons
Review: This cruise was almost perfect. I love that the ship was half full too. Everyone wore masks. Dining room was sanitized after every seating. Just a great cruise from beginning to end! Specialty restaurants were wonderful. Loved Rudi's bistro & seafood. Main dining was very good. Loved Billboard Onboard with dueling pianos, Rolling Stones rock venue had great music, B.B. Kings had good blues. Lincoln Center Classic music was also good. Service was excellent in all areas. My bedroom carpet was either worn or a little dirty.
Staff, cleanliness, food, ports of call.
Pros: Staff, cleanliness, food, ports of call.
Cons: Some music was very loud, and too close to other music venues.
Review: Wonderful staff. Orange Club dinning etc. is fabulous and well worth the price. Ship is well maintained and extremely clean. They are very concerned about controlling the spread of germs.
Great staff-Club Orange for dining for suite guests-food.
Pros: Great staff-Club Orange for dining for suite guests-food.
Cons: No steel drums-no free wi fi-no daily newspaper-no on deck buffets
Review: The ship was clean and the staff was excellent. The service was good and the food was fine. Different people look for different things. We had fun, but would more likely book a different cruise line if doing the same islands.
no matter how many are booked on board, there never seems to be a crowd. The passageways, common areas and deck chair spaces all are roomy. The decor is stunning and the food second to none whether in the Dining Room, the Lido or any of the truly great specialized restaurants. The music venues are diverse and fun. The Teaming with BBC Earth is marvelous for their shows
Pros: no matter how many are booked on board, there never seems to be a crowd. The passageways, common areas and deck chair spaces all are roomy. The decor is stunning and the food second to none whether in the Dining Room, the Lido or any of the truly great specialized restaurants. The music venues are diverse and fun. The Teaming with BBC Earth is marvelous for their shows
Cons: The entertainment is terrible except for a couple of pianists, vocalists and the BBC Production with the strings and band from the ship. They are also nickel and diming us and doing away with some of the things that set HAL apart from the rest of the ship lines.
Review: I always sail HAL and I have sailed the Konigsdam including the inaugural cruise about 4 or 5 times. I am a veteran cruiser and some of the changes overall have been good but some not so good so the lines begin to blur between HAL and others. But I will continue to sail HAL because the crew and staff are so people/service oriented and HAL is extremely good to its crew. They openly mention the ability to rise in the hierarchy of the company and the benefits are good. Happy Crew, Happy Passengers. The officers are extremely competent and can be seen around the ship. You can usually catch the Captain out and about, even eating in the various locales. A great company.
Great itinerary, and great shore excursions. Cabin accomodations (mini suite) were comfortable and very functional. Pool deck area and associated food and beverage services was one of nicest have seen on any cruise ship.
Pros: Great itinerary, and great shore excursions. Cabin accomodations (mini suite) were comfortable and very functional. Pool deck area and associated food and beverage services was one of nicest have seen on any cruise ship.
Cons: MUSIC WAS MUCH TOO LOUD !!! Could have been greatly improved by giving volume control knob good turn counterclockwise. Ship decor was less dramatic than onther cruise line have been on (Princess), and entertainment was not as good.
Review: Service by crew in dining room and else was very good. Shore excursion staff was especially helpful, specifically on advising us on excursions appropriate for wife with limited mobility.
The overall experience.
Pros: The overall experience.
Cons: None
Review: Staff was excellent. The dining room was nice but did get backed up on several occasions. Stayed in an inside room and it was very comfortable and met our needs. Our room was the only inside room on the floor in our section. Was perfect. The Caption was very enjoyable and his announcements were nice to listen to. Did not attend any entertainment events in the main stage. The B/B King lounge was to loud and the couple playing the pianos were not very good singers. The trivia sessions were lots of fun and a good way to meet people.

Cons: Pools were too small, entertainment was sub par, photos too expensive.
Review:
Thoroughly enjoyed this cruise. The ship is very nice. The buffet is not self serv...surprising at first. The lines move very quickly though. The asian station is very good and I visited that several times!! Food was very good. Staff all very friendly. The music walk was awesome. Best music on board than any cruise I have been on. Rolling stone rock room was packed every night with everyone enjoying the music. The 5 musicians were awesome.

Review: Great cruise. Had never been on Holland America before. Have taken many cruises on several other lines. This was great and may move it up on the list of favorite lines!!
Ship easy to get around and beautifully decorated. Stern balcony cabin was very nice. Could enjoy the balcony when the ship was moving as felt little wind at the stern.
Pros: Ship easy to get around and beautifully decorated. Stern balcony cabin was very nice. Could enjoy the balcony when the ship was moving as felt little wind at the stern.
Cons: Entertainment was lacking and theater a bit small. Felt you had to get to the theater way too early to get a seat.
Review: Our first visit to the islands on the itinerary except Half Moon Cay. The beach there is amazing and the water beautiful. Saw a good bit of the other islands on excursions thru ShoreTrips and had very informative and enjoyable introductions to those stops. Weather was gorgeous. Our stop at Aruba was on Sunday so most everything was closed.
Relatively small - 2000 passengers, excellent service, excellent entertaining cruise director, excellent engaging captain
Pros: Relatively small - 2000 passengers, excellent service, excellent entertaining cruise director, excellent engaging captain
Cons: no library, no self service on the lido deck which resulted in standing in line for food.

Embarkation, entire crew, food, bars, debarkation
Pros: Embarkation, entire crew, food, bars, debarkation
Cons: Lido deck
Review: Koningsdam met all of our expectations. She is a beautiful ship...only thing we were not crazy about was the design of the Lido. Not "user" friendly to us.One can not walk through from one side to the other except for one crossover. After a few days we did get a better handle on it! All in all, we had a wonderful time and highly recommend HAL Koningsdam!

Review: Beautiful new Holland America ship with lots of new amenities.
Lots of 60,'s and 70's entertainment , healthy foods available
Pros: Lots of 60,'s and 70's entertainment , healthy foods available
Cons: Not for families
Review: Lido foods are served behind counters so less touching of foods by customers. Specialty restaurants are outstanding.
Excellent food, outstanding shows, beautiful ship, great music in the lounges, comfortable cabin
Pros: Excellent food, outstanding shows, beautiful ship, great music in the lounges, comfortable cabin
Cons: No organized bridge, small pool area and light waiter/waitress service
Review: Nice Ship
1. most beautiful ship we have been on 2 beds and foam pillows excellent 3 evening meal excellent 4 entertainment
Pros: 1. most beautiful ship we have been on 2 beds and foam pillows excellent 3 evening meal excellent 4 entertainment
Cons: 1. ports not very exciting 2 lunches and breakfast ok but salads at lunch excellent
Review: Will definitely chose this ship again, but hope they have a more exciting Carribean itinerary next time.
Ship, decor, staff, entertainment, ports
Pros: Ship, decor, staff, entertainment, ports
Cons: Food in dining room
Review: Beautiful new ship, inside and out. Usual good service. All forms of entertainment were excellent. Lido was excellent. Also enjoyed Pinnacle Grill and Cannelletto. However, did not care for dinning room food-too "gourmet", too many weird combinations. Things were somewhat disorganized at times. Communications were also poor.
Food was excellent, room was fabulous, stops were very good as well. Even though the ship is fairly large, you never felt crowded. The room attendant was very very good and they were always pleasant. Above average on board shopping as well, if you are into that. Getting on the ship was a breeze; getting off the ship was even easier. I was shocked to say the least.

Getting on the ship was a breeze; getting off the ship was even easier. I was shocked to say the least.
Cons: Some of the entertainment (dueling pianos) was not my cup of tea, but I did enjoy listening to the string quartet. I have never seen a string quartet on a ship. Very high class and they were very good as well.
Review: We honestly enjoyed the cruise. The boat was brand new and everything was well cared for. The stops were enjoyable and nobody bothered you like they do in Jamaica. I have never been at a beach like the one at Half Moon Cay. I have never seen sand like that, either, and I am from Florida! The crew from top to bottom was excellent in my humble opinion. Do not be afraid to get on this boat; you will be glad you did!!
Beautiful ship
Pros: Beautiful ship
Cons: Would like more time in Half Moon Cay.
Review: Ship was very new and clean. It was a quiet, mature crowd but that is what we were looking for... no belly flop contests or hairy back contests like you find on Carnival.. Had a great Blues Band that played all nights but one. The main stage had a great show every night. Overall, was a great experience and never felt rush to do activities. The food was great and the Lido market food was just as good as food in the main dining room. Also served lobster and filet mignon in the Lido Market one night. Overall, the experience was great and this ship is definitely for people who want a quieter more relaxed sailing experience.
same excellent service but all new lights and feelings
Pros: same excellent service but all new lights and feelings
Cons: haven't found one up to now (maybe the big screen some more diversity but really not so important)
Review: We enjoyed a great cruise on the MS Koningsdam. 19 days with nice ports (Gran Turk, Amber Cove, Half Moon Key,...) Great and good food, nice restaurants (Sal du Mer as restaurant and Pizza Deli as snack). We booked again already for next year!!
Good food and service mid size ships
Pros: Good food and service mid size ships
Cons: Many amenities of past cruises no longer offered
Review: HAL has significantly reduced many "perks" offered in the past but still a good value due to good service, good food and sensibly sized ships. Koningsdan demonstrated that HAL FINALLY has is embarkation and disembarkation procedure act together
Beautiful, new ship. Larger than prior Holland ships we have been on but boarding and deboarding were smooth. Wonder crew. Execptional service from friendly crew who seemed happy.
Pros: Beautiful, new ship. Larger than prior Holland ships we have been on but boarding and deboarding were smooth. Wonder crew. Execptional service from friendly crew who seemed happy.
Cons: Have downsized library and almost eliminated books to check out and read. Noisy dinning room.
Review: Overall wonderful cruise.
Beautiful ship, Lots of good food
Pros: Beautiful ship, Lots of good food
Cons: Charging for water, Dining schedule & service - average, land tours- average
Review: Had a very good time with family & friends on this cruise. Stateroom was very comfortable and room stewards (for 7143) were excellent. Charging for water in the stateroom and bar charges were very inconsistent. Arnold Palmer drinks (lemonade & ice tea) were either no charge by certain waiters in the main dining room, but was charged if the request was made to a sommelier. Charged for milk if requested after breakfast. :-( World Stage entertainment was okay... seen better more professional acts on other Holland American ships. Land tours - ran behind schedules, no notice about having proper change for use of toilets. Guides were hard to understand for our English speaking group.
Great new ship, outstanding entertainment, super food and crew
Pros: Great new ship, outstanding entertainment, super food and crew
Cons: None
Review: Brand new ship with great facilities, outstanding entertainment in main stage with 270 degree view and lunges - food outstanding in main dining and speciality restaurants
Wonderful food, accomodations, activities and service
Pros: Wonderful food, accomodations, activities and service
Cons: Had a little bad weather which no one could control and luggage got delayed on homeward bound flight.
Review: The organization of moving so many people aboard and into and off ship was handled well. Our luggage was waiting for us at cabin and also the tender into Gieranger went smoothly. The weather conditions required decisions to be made causing changes in the itinerary. Actually it was beneficial to us as we were able to spend some time in Amsterdam. Other changes were not a problem. Our cabins were so lovely and the beds were comfortable. Food was wonderful and offered endless variety. How nice to pick up breakfast at Lido Deck and sit by a window with view of ocean. Entertainment and activities offered lots of diversion and the ship itself was elegant and beautiful. Great commentaries on the sights as we sailed past scenic and noteworthy locations.
New ship--bright and shiny, friendly staff, lovely ports
Pros: New ship--bright and shiny, friendly staff, lovely ports
Cons: Entertainment overall was not as outstanding as we have experienced before.
Review: We thoroughly enjoyed being on the Christening voyage of this new ship. A highlight was sailing down the Maas River to waving and cheering crowds. Sadly, because of our flight time out of Amsterdam, we were unable to see the queen and could not attend the reception.
Brand new, clean, crisp, and inviting.
Pros: Brand new, clean, crisp, and inviting.
Cons: Food is not a positive.
Review: As a single, I ate at the Lido buffet. I found that the main entrees were limited. Pork loin to the max!! The sweets were the size for a canary to eat. I also had a problem with ship employees clogging the food lines at the Lido. Maybe they could eat before paying guests showed up.
