Gustavia | Friday, Feb 21, 2025 | Friday, Feb 21, 2025 |
There was never any hope of lucrative sugar plantations in St.Barths. It was too dry, too steep, too rocky, and, finally, too small. Unsuitable for agriculture, the island was never coveted as a prize during the colonial wars of the 18th century. The place had a serviceable harbor, and this allowed the town that grew around it, Gustavia, to play a key role in that intermittent conflict, a role that was to presage much of its future. Overflowing warehouses surrounded a harbor packed with ships from many nations, and a mercantile and architectural tradition was established that has lingered to the present day. Today, Gustavia has adjusted itself to satisfy the increasing number of visiting tourists. Restaurants, boutiques, and gift shops now line streets once busy with merchants, merchant seamen, and adventurers. | ||

Submit Your Own Review! No lines, no waiting, just perfect
Pros: No lines, no waiting, just perfect
Cons: The sails did not work
Review: From the crew and their sincere politeness and kindness to the ease of the embarkation, excursions and disembarkation, I have absolutely no complaints. One reason you should consider the smaller boutique experience of WindStar is we were in port in Montenegro and so was NCL & Princess and the lines for them to board the tenders to return were so very long. For us on Windstar, no lines, no waiting, just walked right past and onto the ship immediately. So very very nice
Perfect cruising conditions
Pros: Perfect cruising conditions

Review: Looking forward to another cruise
Pros: No Pros

Review: The staff on this ship was outstanding. They are very attentive and helpful.
Didn’t have to deal with thousands of other cruisers. This particular cruise had fewer than 200 guests. Small enough that within a couple of days many of the crew could call us by name. Also loved the open seating in the dining room. Food was excellent!
Pros: Didn’t have to deal with thousands of other cruisers. This particular cruise had fewer than 200 guests. Small enough that within a couple of days many of the crew could call us by name. Also loved the open seating in the dining room. Food was excellent!
Cons: There was a ship band and singer that gave a show every night but no big shows and entertainment like on large cruise ships (but this was fine with me).
Review: See above.
Ship style, staff
Pros: Ship style, staff
Cons: Needed updates and itinerary management
Review: Love the ship itself. Housekeeping and dining room staff were great. Problems are that the ship just came out of dry dock but the rooms are in need of up dating. The design is great. The beds are fine. But you don't expect to see rust. The bigger problems involved itinerary. Awful glass bottom boat excursion in Tobago (scene of sitting in wet paint), long dull excursion in Santa Marta and skipped port in Boco del Toros, Panama. We skipped this port so that they could go in and out of the canal and ended up spending a day in Colon which was a waste. In an out of the canal is not worth much of anything.
Small, Clean, Super Friendly staff, never crowded, great food, small port of calls
Pros: Small, Clean, Super Friendly staff, never crowded, great food, small port of calls
Cons: None
Review: Everything on this cruise was great. However if you are looking for Las Vegas shows and entertainment this is not for you. There is a good 4 piece band and a duo for entertainment. For us that was perfect after the "monster" as they call them, cruise ships with 3000 - 4500 people on board. The staff called us by name after two days, you could go to the bridge almost any time to talk to the captain and other ship officers. Never more than a 5 minute wait to get off the ship by tender. The food in the regular dining room was perhaps the best in the 15 other cruises I've taken on other lines.
The CREW!
Pros: The CREW!
Cons: Having just come out of dry dock it was obvious there were many smaller items that still required attention.
Review: This is how we like to spend November. Great food! The crew out numbers the guests. The newly renovated Lounge is very attractive.
Great food, service. Felt like we were on a private yacht

Service and food excellent
Pros: Service and food excellent
Cons: Too short a time in some ports
Review: Too short a time in some ports. Would have liked another evening in a port like we had in Kotor.
Friendliness and Competence of Staff, Quality of Excursions, Ship Amenities, Quality of Food and choices available.

Cons: None.
Review: We had a very enjoyable time.
Ports, food, service, sports deck
Pros: Ports, food, service, sports deck
Cons: Can't think of any!
Review: The ports were absolutely fantastic and we were at ports all by ourselves because the big ships couldn't dock where we did! Fantastic! No waiting in lines for anything and all the tours were small in size. The food was great and no extra cost for the specialty dining options. Mellow Yellow (singer & keyboard player) were off the charts fantastic! Very talented and we loved listening to them every night!
Staff makes an effort to make you feel they are serving only you.
Pros: Staff makes an effort to make you feel they are serving only you.
Cons: No water sports when docked
Review: we hope to take another Windstar cruise itinerary
Service, food, wine tasting at Brown Castle & Chateau Ste Roseline, the excitetement of the Race
Pros: Service, food, wine tasting at Brown Castle & Chateau Ste Roseline, the excitetement of the Race
Cons: Event dinner at Cafe De Paris
Review: Can't say enough about the wonderful staff. From the captain, to the maintenance crew there was always a smile & hello usually by name. The yacht size allows the luxury of actually meeting the other guests and sharing wonderful adventures. The laundry service is excellent and the stone message divine. Embarking & disembarking the tenders can be a challenge however, the destination is worth it. Being on the balcony for cocktails of the Cafe De Paris was lovely, seeing all the lights and watching the entrance to the Grand Casino was a treat, but the dinner & entertainment was a disappointment. Would agree with one of the officers alternative to instead have a cocktail reception at the car museum followed by a superb dinner aboard the Wind Surf.
Excellent

Easy, comfortable way to travel. Wonderful accommodations, service and staff.
Pros: Easy, comfortable way to travel. Wonderful accommodations, service and staff.
Cons: No real complaints
Review: The plumbing in our suite did not work. After several unsuccessful attempts to fix it they moved us to a new (and larger) suite and helped us move. We did insist the problem be addressed before we left port in Stockholm and they assured us they would do so and they did.
