Bridgetown (Barbados) | Saturday, Dec 14, 2024 | Saturday, Dec 14, 2024 |
The island’s capital, Bridgetown, is one of the Caribbean's major free ports, bustling with activity. Trafalgar Square features the monument to Horatio Nelson. Facing the square are handsome structures of the House of Assembly and the Legislative buildings. George Washington worshipped at St. Michael’s Cathedral during the only trip he made outside of the United States. Housed in former British military prison buildings, the Barbados Museum is divided into various galleries that feature exhibits depicting the history of Barbados from the pre-Columbian period to modern times. Built in 1816, Gun Hill Signal Station is the finest of several signal stations on the island. The white limestone lion behind the garrison is a well-known landmark. Barbados boasts excellent golf courses. A wide range of watersports is available at hotels and special watersports centers.

Explore the steaming crater of what is billed as the world's only 'drive-in' volcano and test Soufriere's hot sulphur baths amid the rainforest. Further sights are to be seen at Diamond Falls and Mineral Baths where you can walk the gardens and take a dip in the pool under the waterfalls - and don’t forget those unspoiled golden beaches.

Panama Canal | Friday, Dec 27, 2024 | Friday, Dec 27, 2024 |
Linking the Atlantic to the Pacific, the Panama Canal provides one of cruising's most unforgettable experiences. Over 10 years were needed to complete the canal's 51 miles in 1914 - so avoiding the lengthy and often dangerous voyage around Cape Horn. 'The Big Ditch' lifts vessels by a fascinating feat of mechanics aided by on-shore 'mule' locomotives through three great locks, traversing man-made lakes, channels blasted through rock, and the dense jungle. Two other special highlights of the canal are Gatun Lake and the Gaillard cut. Gatun Lake is one of the world's largest man-made lakes covering 163 square miles. Gaillard Cut is an 8 mile channel built through solid rock which was the most difficult excavation in the canal construction.

Submit Your Own Review!Small ship, easy to get around in ...great cabins, helpful crew, friendly passengers, wonderful food
Pros: Small ship, easy to get around in ...great cabins, helpful crew, friendly passengers, wonderful food
Cons: small elevators
Review: Could be difficult for people with mobility issues due to the small size of the forward elevators. I injured my knee and had to use a transport chair to get around in....difficult at times. However, the crew and fellow passengers were all wonderful at helping out! Would definitely choose WindStar again.
Enjoyed the smaller ship and the wonderful service
Pros: Enjoyed the smaller ship and the wonderful service
Cons: Everything was excellent
Review: The Icelandic people were very welcoming. Do not miss the day at the Blue Lagoon!
Superb dining and guest care. Uncrowded and relaxing environment.
Pros: Superb dining and guest care. Uncrowded and relaxing environment.
Cons: Not actually a negative, but the ship lacks entertainment, so simply relax and entertain yourself!
Review: Not geared toward 24/7 party'ers or Millennials at all, thank the Lord!!!
Easy to navigate the ship, recently updated and expanded, nice specialty restaurants
Pros: Easy to navigate the ship, recently updated and expanded, nice specialty restaurants
Cons: Small ship so entertainment is minimal at night and while at sea
Review:
Very responsive crew, large suites with balcony, great food, special care for restricted diets, choice of excursions
Pros: Very responsive crew, large suites with balcony, great food, special care for restricted diets, choice of excursions
Cons: Beds were rather soft
Review: We would travel on this ship again. Music groups were talented and fun to dance to their music.
Cabin size and amenities, itinerary
Pros: Cabin size and amenities, itinerary
Cons: Rough seas, too little time in ports
Review: This was our first experience with Windstar, and I’d give it a solid “B.” The cabins (all suites) are huge and have great amenities. The staff was attentive, although I think our cabin attendant was the only one who ever learned our names (the staff knowing your names and favorite drinks is often touted in reviews). We were a little disappointed in the food; it was generally good but not exceptional. The menu was perhaps a bit ambitious for the kitchen. The southeast Canada itinerary was excellent, tho we would have liked more time in the most interesting ports and could have skipped a couple of the less interesting ones.
Large staterooms with fridge, dual sink vanities, walk in closet, Excellent food, great service and the staff learn your name
Pros: Large staterooms with fridge, dual sink vanities, walk in closet, Excellent food, great service and the staff learn your name
Cons: Small balconies, quiet in the evenings for those looking for glitz, shore excursions were not well organized and too expensive.
Review:
Terrific cabin size and storage, superb cuisine, only 200 guests, no children, excellent customer service.
Pros: Terrific cabin size and storage, superb cuisine, only 200 guests, no children, excellent customer service.
Cons: Yacht's stabilizers have not been updated; HVAC and plumbing issues experienced by guests during cruise.
Review: A very good cruise overall with the finest cuisine we have ever enjoyed anywhere. Attentive friendly staff. This is not a cruise for guests who are not self-directed and require constant onboard activities and entertainment.
Cabins are outstanding. Service crew wonderful. Ship size (208) is perfect. Nice and balanced itinerary. Private dinner at Ephesus
Pros: Cabins are outstanding. Service crew wonderful. Ship size (208) is perfect. Nice and balanced itinerary. Private dinner at Ephesus
Cons: Very few. Food good but not very destination specific or memorable. Shore excursions generally very good but ship staff not consistently knowledgeable. Ship shows its age in a few places but generally very attractive.
Review: This was our first non-expedition cruise. We are highly averse to large ships and Star Pride was just fine with 104 cabins. The cabins were attractive and spacious, with adequate closet and drawer storage, a nice two sink bathroom, a comfortable sitting area and a veranda that we could (just barely) step onto. We only had one 110 outlet but had been expecting none so we were ready with adapters. Nice itinerary with a mixture of historic/archaeological sites and a few more recreational ports. Beautiful private candlelight dinner event at Ephesus. Service staff - cabin, restaurant and bar - all very friendly, attentive and fun. Excellent cocktail bar quartet - light jazz and jazzy pop. Very nice experience.
Small ship, responsive chef, some exceptional crew, and big potential. Hotel at end of tour was good.
Pros: Small ship, responsive chef, some exceptional crew, and big potential. Hotel at end of tour was good.
Cons: Many over promises and resulting disappointments and ship had not been completely fixed up from change of ownership
Review: This ship was purchased from Seaborne with the promise of refurbishment, which did not get done sufficiently enough. The promotional information(hype), and even promises on the ship failed to materialize which led to almost daily disappointments. The transfer agents to the ship and after the cruise were terrible. The food was average but there were standouts of the crew, the chef, one of the reception ladies, but otherwise, lots of promises with many disappointments. The ports were good, but again, the tours fell into disappointment when lunch would be delayed until after 2pm when the tour started at 8am having eaten breakfast at 7am. My main thought was I got about half of what I expected and paid the full cost, so value wise, not a good choice.
Food, staff, service
Pros: Food, staff, service
Cons: Smoking outdoors on top of deck should have been limited to the aft
Review: Enjoyed the cruise
