A record
number of people turned out to celebrate
Nonstop Travel's 25th business
anniversary at the Alpine Village in
Torrance on Sunday, January 25.
"We received 650 RSVPs but over 1000
people attended," said NonStop Travel’s
president, Elisabeth (Lisa)
Wilson-Schmitt, who along with her
husband, Klaus Schmitt, started the
travel agency in January of 1984 to
cater to the large German-speaking
community in Southern California.
The
little agency of then, with only one
desk and one phone, started in a small
room above the German American Club in
Santa Monica, has grown into one of the
largest retail travel agencies
specializing in travel to Germany,
Austria and Switzerland. In January
1992, the agency opened a partner office
in Germany, “Nonstop Reisen,” in
Frankfurt/Main, servicing clients
traveling from Germany and other
European countries to the United States.
Over the years, Nonstop Travel has
developed 'niche' travel programs that
help to promote German culture and
heritage. One program in particular, the
popular 'Back to Your Roots in Germany',
offers the large number of Americans
with German heritage the opportunity to
research and follow their German
ancestors’ footsteps while traveling
abroad. The unique program was developed
together with the German National
Tourism Board and Research & Travel in
Germany. |
