Passionplay 2010

The Greatest Story Ever Told. Performed only every 10 years since 1634 in Oberammergau

May through October 2010

Dates: May  15, 2010

The history of the Oberammergau Passion Play begins in 1633. During the Thirty Years' War, after much suffering and also many deaths caused by the plague, the surviving population of Oberammergau vowed that they would perform the "play of the suffering, death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ" every ten years if they were spared from extinction. At Whitsun in 1634 they kept their promise for the first time. As early as the middle of the 18th century spectators came to Oberammergau from all parts of Germany, attracted by the great power and mystique of the play. In 2010 the village will perform the play for the 41st time, maintaining the continuity of this unique world famous event.

We offer packages for performances on Friday, Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday in 13 different accommodation categories. You can choose between staying overnight in a luxurious hotel or in a lovingly furnished private room. The accommodation is situated in Oberammergau, in the region of the Ammergau Alps or in the nearby surroundings. On arrival at your place of accomodation you will be given your admission ticket to the Passion Play, an informative programme book with the text of the Passion Play and an admission ticket to visit the Oberammergau Museum. Your physical well-being will also be taken care of. Before the play begins an ample meal awaits you, and during the interval from 5.00 pm to 8.00 pm you will enjoy the best of Oberammergau gastronomy during dinner. We offer our guests a free transfer service in Oberammergau and the nearby villages.
